4Gs - Gratefulness, Giftedness, Generosity & God’s Presence: Reflection on Love, Happiness & Sorrows
Marie-cor G. Militante
Lk 6:17, 20-26” Jesus looked at his disciples and said , “Happy are you poor; the Kingdom of God is yours! Happy are you who are hungry now,you will be filled! Happy are you who weep now, you will laugh! Happy are when people hate you, reject you, insult you, and say that you are evil, all because of the Son of Man! Be glad when that happens and dance for joy because a great reward is kept for you in heaven. For their ancestors did the very same things to the prophets. But how terrible for you who are rich now; you have had your easy life! How terrible for you who are full now; you will go hungry! How terrible for you who laugh now; you will mourn and weep! How terrible when all people speak well of you; their ancestors said the very same things about the false prophets”.
All of us were once innocent pure-hearted children, afraid of sin and its penalty. But then we tried our first sin. Our ears had listened to Satan, we tasted the forbidden fruit and he opened our eyes to the pleasures of sin.
As the addiction grew, guilt and shame came in. But Satan kept whispering "It's okay, it's manageable." We listened to him and looked for dark places to continue indulging in sin. Until one day our world collapsed under the weight of consequences.
THANK GOD FOR JESUS! Sent by our Father into this garden of sin, He comes looking for us.
No matter how dark and hopeless the situation, just give Jesus a try. Allow Him to loosen your tongue and admit your guilt in Confession. Let Him open your ears and now listen to His voice only. Nothing is impossible for Jesus. He will lead us back to the harmony and peace found only in the garden of God's love.
God planted 2 trees at the center of the Garden of Eden (Gn 2:9):
1. The Tree of Life
2. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
God told Adam to eat from all trees including the Tree of Life. He prohibited only the 2nd tree. Sadly, Eve believed Satan's temptation to choose the 2nd tree and become as wise as God. And so they were expelled from the Garden. But God promised that a descendant of Eve would come to crush Satan's demons (Gn 3:15).
In the fullness of time, God kept His promise and sent His Son to earth to become son of Mary. Jesus came to teach us obedience, the way of life that would crush Satan.
Jesus miraculously fed thousands with only 7 loaves of bread. This was a preview of the Holy Eucharist, the Bread of Life that today feeds millions.
Let us always be grateful to Jesus the new Adam, and Mary the new Eve for their great sacrifice.
Which of the 2 attitudes below is more you?
"Yes we need God, but we need money to live."
"Yes we need money, but we need God to live eternally."
We read about the blessed attitudes, or beatitudes of Jesus.
Jesus says we are blessed (happy) when our need for God's company surpasses our need for worldly goods.
The world's supply is limited, whereas our need for it has no limit. The more we get of it, the more we want more. But the supply of God's love and His desire to give it is truly unlimited.
"Cursed are those... who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord," but blessed are they whose passion is the resurrection and eternal happiness with God
Next time you want to say, "God bless you," think first what you really mean.
Let us ask more for the blessings of faith, hope and love.
